Nope – the world did not end
I did the unthinkable. The absolutely unthinkable act of deleting my facebook account. OMG! What have I done!! LOL Not really. Why would someone do such a crazy thing? Why would anyone ever even contemplate disengaging themselves from the interwebs in such a fashion? Well, two reasons really. The first being that I was completely disgusted with their new “promote” option that they started. I have a lot of friends who have small businesses that utilized the friendslist to send out messages to their customers. The new “promote” function now keeps them from being able to reach all of their subscribers because even if you are a friend and subscribe they will no longer send out the messages to everyone. Only a small percentage gets the messages unless you pay fees ranging from $200-$2500 per post depending on the amount of people you want to reach. Did you catch that …PER POST! It is an insane amount of money for these small businesses and they did this all sneaky and underhanded without even bothering to have the balls and really come out and announce their format change. Nice. Second reason, I realized that I can talk to my friends without needing a computer to do so and in the process have gained HOURS of my life back each day. I read more again and am finally getting things done around the house. This is more my fault for being weak then it is facebook’s fault but I removed the distraction and I think I am going to be much happier this way.
I also have a feeling I will finally begin using and posting on my blog I have had now for a few years. This poor thing has sat here in internet oblivion unused, unloved and all alone. Its time I take back my life and use my time in the best manner for myself instead of getting sucked into hours of trolling on facebook achieving nothing but a fatter ass and hand cramps from the mouse.
